The start of this Race was delayed due to PEN-CHAN refusing to load and being withdrawn by the Starter. ADIOS GRINGO, ZABIVAKA, SHADOW CATCHER and THE CARPENTER were slow into stride. In view of the Starter's report with regard to PEN-CHAN, this gelding's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and he was suspended for a period of 30 days and until such time as he proves tractable to load on terms. PEN- CHAN may not be presented for re-passing during this period. In view of the performance of RULE THE WORLD, the Course Veterinarian was requested to examine. Jockey Ashby signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he hit the horse FOR LUCK SAKE more than 12 times in the entire race. A penalty of a fine was imposed. An inquiry will be opened to establish why FOUNDING FATHER, JADEED, RULE THE WORLD and NOBLE DUKE, who were awkwardly placed on the inside of FOR LUCK SAKE and BARBARELLA NIGHTS, suffered varying degrees of interference approaching and/or into the first turn. A race review was called by Assistant Trainer Hewitson, acting on behalf of Trainer Bremner, into the above incident. However, after reviewing of the patrol films illustrating the interference suffered by the horse NOBLE DUKE, no further action was taken. FOR LUCK SAKE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. WINTER FIVE raced equipped with a tongue tie. Vet: JADEED - coughed post-race. RULE THE WORLD - nothing obvious detected. NOBLE DUKE - speedy cut left fore. WINTER FIVE - blood in mouth. Scratched: IMBALI - stipes permission. With regard to the scratching of IMBALI, it was established, post-declarations that, the horses MBALI and IMBALI had been switched. In this regard, IMBALI was erroneously recorded rather than the correct horse, IMBALI which is Trained by J V A Strydom. In order to prevent any further prejudice, the Board acting in terms of the rules scratched IMBALI with Stipes Permission PEN-CHAN - refused to load.
