Jockey Cheyne was examined by the Course Medical Officer and was passed fit to ride in today's racemeeting (stood down at Fairview Racecourse - 12.7.2019 RULE 25.15 NOT APPLICABLE).
Due to the power shortage in the country, there is a state of permanent power outage experienced around Borrowdale area and the Racecourse. This precipitated in generators being used on the Racecourse precinct. The generators were, however, not switched on, resulting in the Sweatbox in the Jockeys' quarters not being operational prior to the commencement of today's race meeting. Consequently the Stipendiary board granted an allowance of 1kg to all riders riding today. In taking the decision the Board took the following into consideration, that:
* The view and the request of the jockey representatives that the 0,5kg allowance offered by the Board will not be sufficient;
* The power was not even on at the time the decision to grant the allowance was being considered at roughly 12h00 pm, which was 35 minutes before the start of the first race;
* The Sweatbox would take approximately 2 hours before it would be optimally heated;
* The riders would not have sufficient time to use the Sweatbox between races and will also not be able to lose weight naturally due to the prevalent cool weather conditions;
* There were no replacement riders that could be used as most of the riders are affected by this situation.
With all the aforementioned issues considered, the Board was of the opinion that this was an unfortunate and unforeseen situation and in the interest of proceeding with the race meeting, all Board members acquiesced in granting the 1kg allowance to all riders.
WANTAGE was slow away losing half a length. MIDNIGHT RAMBLER was disappointed for a run between the 300m and 200m. WANTAGE shifted inwards sharply away from the crop in the final 200m. Jockey Andrews, the rider of LOVE TO BLUFF, signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for contravention, read in conjunction with guideline (M) in that he struck LOVE TO BLUFF more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Orffer, the rider of MISSY FRANKLIN, signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for contravention, read in conjunction with guideline (M) in that he struck MISSY FRANKLIN more than twelve times in the entire race. LOVE TO BLUFF was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
