THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MONKEY'S WEDDING was stubborn loading. b) NIGHT IN JAPAN jumped slow, losing approximately two to three lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (13h39) b) JET O WAR over raced in the early and middle stages. c) At approximately the 1300m, NIGHT IN JAPAN clipped the heels of DEAD POETS SOCIETY and stumbled. Both Apprentice BA Makhubo and Jockey K Strydom appeared before the Board and were questioned with regard to the above incident. It was determined that DEAD POETS SOCIETY was carried in slightly by JET O WAR, which over raced and, as a consequence, NIGHT IN JAPAN clipped the heels of DEAD POETS SOCIETY. Apprentice BA Makhubo (NIGHT IN JAPAN) was reminded of his obligation to report any circumstances which might affect the performance of his mount. d) At the 250m, JET O WAR had to steady momentarily when close to the heels of NIGHT IN JAPAN, which was hanging in from the 300m. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding NIGHT IN JAPAN, Trainer JVA Strydom was advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. f) MATT'S WARRIOR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM) g) MONKEY'S WEDDING, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised. (LM) FURTHER JOCKEY CHANGES/OTHER: a) R Fourie (ALAKAZAM) rode +0.5kg (55.9kgs). THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) ALAKAZAM - abnormal respiratory noise & abrasion right front. b) NIGHT IN JAPAN - brush wound left hind. SCRATCHED: a) BUGLE - change of surface.
