THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RED FRED was nervous and fractious in the stalls, nudged the front gates open immediately prior to the start being effected, jumped awkwardly and made contact with the left-side front gate leaving the stalls. b) STRAIGHT RED and CAN WE START jumped slow, losing one length. c) NIGHT IN JAPAN was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h16) b) Permission was granted for STRAIGHT RED to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) The Stewards called for a race review with regard to RED FRED in stall gate 6 and established that this gelding had become fractious, nudged the front gates open prematurely but had gained no advantage and therefore took no further action. d) PEEKABOO and NIGHT IN JAPAN over raced in the early and middle stages. e) NIGHT IN JAPAN shifted out away from the crop from the 100m. f) In view of the performance of RED FRED, which was not persevered with from the 100m, the Veterinarian was requested to examine this gelding. g) Apprentice B Soodoo reported that CAN WE START coughed post-race. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this filly. h) In view of the report from the Starter regarding RED FRED, Trainer K Mitchley was advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. i) SATELLITE WORLD, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM) FURTHER JOCKEY CHANGES/OTHER: a) R Fourie (NIGHT IN JAPAN) rode +0.5kg. (56.8kgs) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) CAN WE START - examined post-race.
