THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VALENCIA (W Agrella) was stubborn to load. Trainer W Badenhorst was advised to re-school this gelding. b) FAT CIGAR (*J Gates) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Trainer W Badenhorst (VALENCIA) will be advised that his runner failed to adequately parade and that should this gelding behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. b) STONE OF DESTINY (M Yeni) shifted out away from the crop from the 400m. c) MORSE (A Marcus) was hanging in from the 400m. d) At the 300m, MASTER GEORGE (D Dillon) which was hanging in from the 350m, shifted in to continue its run. e) At the 250m, VALENCIA (W Agrella) shifted in to continue its run. f) Jockey K de Melo reported that MY LORD AND MASTER (12.05 lengths) made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) Apprentice K Brewer (KOBENS EXPRESS) appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films and advised against the practice of using his crop when out of contention for a place. h) Apprentice J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse FAT CIGAR more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice J Gates the Board considered the number of times (14) Apprentice J Gates struck the horse FAT CIGAR, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice J Gates used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. i) STAR CRUSADE (T Godden), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G B Puller advised (SC). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) SPACE NEWS raced with a compression mask (advised 17.12.20/08h23). b) KOBENS EXPRESS raced without blinkers (advised 17.12.20/22h52). c) VALENCIA was ridden by Jockey W Agrella.
