THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MISTY METAL was restless in the stalls. b) POWER OF PEARLS jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, making contact with the right-side front gate. c) STAGGERWING was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) USHOULDBEDANCING recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer R Klaasen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) At approximately the 200m, USHOULDBEDANCING, which hung in from the 300m, was switched out to avoid running onto the heels of JAZZ PIANIST, which rolled out marginally. c) Jockey J Gates reported that ARILENA changed stride continually in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine. d) Jockey C Habib reported that he felt something amiss with MISTY METAL in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine. e) POWER OF PEARLS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee M Ncube, acting on behalf of Trainer M Pandaram, was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) ARILENA examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. b) MISTY METAL coughing post-race. c) POWER OF PEARLS head injury. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
