THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) reared before the start was effected and jumped awkwardly.
b) SHOTOVER JET (D Dillon) jumped slow, losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The Stewards reviewed the start with regard to PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) in stall gate 14 and established that the gelding had become restless and reared before the start was effected and as a consequence, jumped awkwardly, unbalanced Jockey S Mbhele and lost significant ground. The Stewards were satisfied that this gelding had not been afforded a fair start and declared PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) to be a non-runner.
b) In view of the report from the starter regarding PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 20/12/2020 to 26/12/2020 inclusive). PAPER TRAIL may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
c) BETTER DAYS (G Cheyne) and SUBTERFUGE (M Winnaar) raced wide on the early part of the bend.
d) Leaving the 100m ALINGALONGA (*J Solomons) was momentarily inconvenienced when tightened for galloping room on the inside of FIRSTAMONGEQUALS (*L Ferraris) which rolled in and was straightened.
e) Leaving the 50m SHOTOVER JET (D Dillon) brushed the hindquarters of HIKARU (K de Melo) while attempting a narrow run between HIKARU (K de Melo) and KING SALADIN (R Fourie) which rolled out slightly.
f) BETTER DAYS (G Cheyne) had to steady when carried in slightly by ROSTROPOVICH (L Mxothwa) which rolled in at the finish.
g) Trainer SJ Snaith was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.6.1, in that he failed to give written notice within 2 business days of ASSERTIVE POWER having being gelded. Assistant Trainer C Snaith signed an admission of guilt and Trainer SJ Snaith was fined R 250,00.
h) ROSTROPOVICH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PAW Botha was advised. (SC)
