THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h36) b) Jockey C Zackey reported that RUBY REX made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey B Plaatjies was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he struck MAJOR APOLLO on consecutive strides. Jockey B Plaatjies signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 500,00. d) When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of MOODY BLUE compared to this gelding's previous two races, Trainer JMT Stewart told the Stewards that MOODY BLUE's last two performances were in soft underfoot conditions, which in his opinion, did not suit this gelding. His explanation was noted. e) MOODY BLUE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JMT Stewart was advised. (TJ) f) MAJOR APOLLO, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GW Ennion was advised. (TJ) JOCKEY CHANGES/OTHER: a) B Plaatjies (MAJOR APOLLO) rode +0.5kg. (54.6kgs) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) RUBY REX - examined post-race. Choked up. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
