THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) COCO BEACH stood awkwardly in the stalls and jumped slow, losing one length.
b) ENCHANTED FOREST and ONE STEP were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h24)
b) When racing into the turn at the 1100m, SENORITA LOLITA, which raced with an awkward head carriage, had to be steadied, shifted out sharply and unbalanced Jockey B Plaatjies when awkwardly placed between RED FLAG, which rolled out slightly away from the inside running rail and JULIET OF VERONA, which shifted in slightly when taking pressure from ROYAL EMULATION.
The Stewards interviewed Jockeys A Domeyer (JULIET OF VERONA), B Plaatjies (SENORITA LOLITA) and G Behr (ROYAL EMULATION) and established that no blame could be attributed to any individual Rider and ruled this to be a racing incident.
c) Approaching the 800m, RED FLAG was steadied off the heels of JULIET OF VERONA. As a consequence, COCO BEACH, which was over racing, SPIRIT OF LIFE, ENCHANTED FOREST and ONE STEP had to be steadied. During this incident, the bit on ENCHANTED FOREST, which raced green and was hanging out on the turn, pulled through this filly's mouth.
Jockey A Domeyer appeared before the Board and was advised to maintain a reasonable pace when racing at the head of the field in future.
d) JULIET OF VERONA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass was advised. (TJ)
