THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ABOVE THE HORIZON was stubborn loading. b) PEDRO jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) HEEMSTEDE jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h11) b) The Stewards reviewed the start with regards to HEEMSTEDE in stall gate 10 and established that the back gates had not been fully closed when the start was effected. In coming to a decision, the Board considered that this gelding had not lost significant ground and therefore declared HEEMSTEDE a runner. An Investigation will be opened into the reason the start was effected when the back gates of stall gate 10 had not been fully closed. c) DYNALLEY shifted outwards from the 400m and raced parallel to the outside running rail from the 200m. d) In view of the performance of HEEMSTEDE, which was not persevered with from the 300m, the Veterinarian was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer JP Nel was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. e) KLEINZEE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) HEEMSTEDE - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected. b) WORLD CHOICE - abrasion left hind. c) DAS GUTE - brush wound left hind.
