THE STARTER HAD NO REPORTS. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CRIMSON RANGER hung in from the 400m to the 200m, thereafter shifted out away from the crop. Subsequently, in the concluding stages, this colt was steadied off the heels of SKITT SMILING, when shifting out sharply away from the crop. In view of this performance, the Veterinarian was requested to examine. b) Jockey M K Katjedi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of SKITT SMILING, misused his crop by striking this colt more than ten times (11). Jockey M K Katjedi signed an Admission of Guilt, and a fine of R1,800 was imposed. c) STEEL SPRING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib was advised (MduP). When questioned regarding the improved performance of STEEL SPRING, Trainer F P Habib could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) CRIMSON RANGER not striding out behind.
