THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BUMBLE BEE was stubborn loading. b) MAKEOVER MAGIC was stubborn loading and jumped slow, losing one length. c) DESTREGA jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h33) b) At approximately the 1000m, AMONG THE WILLOWS had to be steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between the inside running rail and BUMBLE BEE, which shifted in. Thereafter, at approximately the 800m, AMONG THE WILLOWS had to be steadied and directed inwards to avoid running onto the heels of BUMBLE BEE, which shifted outwards away from the inside running rail. Apprentice BA Makhubo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of BUMBLE BEE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to AMONG THE WILLOWS, on two occasions, at the 1000m and the 800m. Apprentice BA Makhubo signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates: 29/08/2026 to 04/09/2026, both dates inclusive). c) AMONG THE WILLOWS was hanging in from the 400m and corrected at the 100m. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding BUMBLE BEE and MAKEOVER MAGIC, Trainers Z Oosthuizen and Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer DG Smith, were advised to have these fillies re-schooled prior to their next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) Jockey C Maujean reported that he felt something amiss with HAWKER TEMPEST. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this filly. f) MAKEOVER MAGIC, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer DG Smith, was advised. (LM) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) HAWKER TEMPEST - examined post-race. Severe post-race distress.
