THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GREY EAGLE (GB), KAILUA BREEZE and MAGNIFY were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h10)
b) Permission was granted for GREY EAGLE (GB) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
c) GREY EAGLE (GB) over raced in the early and middle stages.
d) RED CHAI shifted both ways away from the crop from the 400m.
e) KAILUA BREEZE raced green.
f) In view of the performance of WEEKEND IN ASPEN (Betting 28/10; Distance 4.50 lengths), the Veterinarian was requested to examine this filly.
Jockey Y Ramzan was questioned with regard to his riding on WEEKEND IN ASPEN. He explained to the Board that his instructions were to jump smartly out the stalls and race handy. However, the filly had not really quickened but had stayed on. In his opinion, it was a weaker run than expected.
g) Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs was questioned with regard to the improved performance of GREY EAGLE (GB). He explained to the Board that this horse had been difficult to work with, had subsequently been gelded and had shown big improvement in both his work and behaviour at home. Jockey C Habib had been instructed to jump GREY EAGLE (GB) out smartly and race handy. Although this gelding had over raced in the early and middle stages, he had settled and run on strongly. Assistant Trainer FJ Jacob's explanation was noted.
h) Trainer K Mitchley was charged with a contravention of Rule 39.7.5 in that she failed to vaccinate KAILUA BREEZE against Equine Influenza in accordance with the program of vaccinations as published from time to time in the Racing Calendar. Stable Employee GW Paddock, acting on behalf of Trainer K Mitchley, signed an Admission of Guilt and Trainer K Mitchley was fined R1 000.00.
i) GREY EAGLE (GB), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer DG Smith, was advised. (LM)
j) SEATTLE GLOW, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
