The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival of the horses at the start. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SARGASSO SEA fly-jumped leaving the stalls, losing 1 length. b) A M C ROY'S STAR and GREENSIDE GIRL lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (JN) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) DEE DAY proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and thereafter, hung in from the 300m. c) THAT'S A GIMME over-raced in the early stages. d) A M C ROY'S STAR raced green. e) In view of the performance of SARGASSO SEA (15.80 lengths and 10/1 in the betting), the Veterinarian was requested to examine. f) Jockey K de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E; Guideline M), in that as the rider of ANYTHING BUT LOVE, he misused his crop by striking this filly more than ten times (11) in the race. Jockey de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 800. g) ANYTHING BUT LOVE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Wright was advised (MM).
