THE STARTER REPORTED: a) EARN THE WEEKEND jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CHAMPAGNE CASTLE cast its left front shoe while proceeding to the start, which was replaced. b) Jockey A Arries was momentarily unbalanced leaving the 200m when EARN THE WEEKEND shifted out for no apparent reason. c) When questioned regarding his decision to allow MY BONNY BOY to race in isolation on the outside of the racetrack, Jockey JP van der Merwe told the Stewards that it was not his intention to allow his mount to shift out. However, this gelding was hanging out badly in the early stages and that passing the 800m, he had elected to allow MY BONNY BOY to shift out and not fight this gelding in the early stages. Thereafter, MY BONNY BOY continued to shift out and proved difficult to correct. The Veterinarian was requested to examine MY BONNY BOY. Trainer L Woodruff will be advised to take the necessary corrective actions to improve this gelding's racing manners. d) Jockey K de Melo reported that WINTER PIRATE took no interest in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this colt. e) Jockey C Murray reported that he felt something amiss with KELP FOREST. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this gelding. f) PALACE GIFT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SW Humby was advised.
