THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MORDECHAI became fractious in the stalls when PARATROOPER kicked the back gates on a number of occasions. MORDECHAI was taken out, examined by the Veterinarian, passed suitable to race and reloaded. b) NAVASNINE was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Light rain fell prior to and during the running of this race. b) Shortly after the start, PRINCE OF TIBET took an awkward stride, shifted out and made contact with AVIGNON. c) At the 1100m, PARATROOPER, which pulled hard in the early and middle stages, had to be steadied away from the heels of AVIGNON, which shifted in when just not sufficiently clear. Apprentice DD Louw appeared before the Board and was advised to be more aware of other runners when shifting ground in similar circumstances. d) Leaving the 800m, MORDECHAI raced onto the heels of PARATROOPER, had to be steadied, shifted out and made contact with NAVASNINE. e) SHIFTING PATH raced wide on the turn and into the straight. f) MORDECHAI was hanging in in the straight. Thereafter, Jockey S Moodley reported that his saddle slipped marginally sideways in the latter stages. g) In view of the report from the Starter regarding PARATROOPER and MORDECHAI, Trainers VH Marshall and SJ Snaith respectively were advised to have these horses re-schooled prior to their next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. h) In view of the performance of MORDECHAI (Betting 5/2; Distance 9.00 lengths), the Veterinarian was requested to examine this colt. i) AVIGNON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PAW Botha was advised. (SC) JOCKEY CHANGES/OTHER: a) Nil THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) MORDECHAI - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this colt on his return to the stables. SCRATCHED: a) DAWN'S EARLY - not eating up. Rule 53.5 applied.
