THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SCOTS WAE HAE was stubborn to load, became restless in the stalls as the start was effected, losing 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (SR) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) The official All Clear was delayed at the request of the Operator. c) A race review was called into the start of this race. After reviewing the start it was established that SCOTS WAE HAE had become restless, broke open the front gates prematurely as the start was effected and sat back in the stalls. The Stewards were satisfied that SCOTS WAE HAE had not been impeded in any manner and that the subsequent loss of ground was due to horse behaviour alone, took no further action in this instance and declared SCOTS WAE HAE to be a runner. Subsequent to the above, it was established that AZZURRI in stall gate 7 had reacted to the fractious horse. This resulted in the handler allocated to AZZURRI being slow in releasing this gelding as the start was effected. AZZURRI jumped awkwardly with its head turned sideways and lost ground to the field. The Board acting in terms of Rule 61.5.10.3 declared AZZURRI to be a non-runner. d) TOMMY ATKINS stumbled leaving the starting stalls. e) In the concluding stages FIRE CHIEF shifted in away from the crop towards ERIC'S LEGACY and was corrected. f) Apprentice D Pillay reported that SON OF RAFEEF took no interest in the running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine. g) In view of the performances of TOMMY ATKINS (14.30 lengths and 33/1 in the betting), SCOTS WAE HAE (11.80 lengths and 3/1 in the betting) and XENOPHON (10.50 lengths and 17/2 in the betting), the Veterinarian was requested to examine. Trainers M/M De Kock will be asked to report back on the condition of SCOTS WAE HAE on return to stables. h) Trainer K Mitchley was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1, in that she failed to ensure that the owner's colours were available for the horse ONE DANCE. Trainer Mitchley signed an Admission of Guilt and was given a warning. i) ERIC'S LEGACY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
