THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) From a deep draw, DUC D'ORANGE (*J Jacobs) was slow into stride which resulted in it adopting a rear-ward position and a different racing pattern in the early stages. Thereafter, whilst over-racing in the early and middle stages, this gelding improved to race outside the leader at the 700m. b) AFRICAN SUNRISE (D Dillon) shifted in away from the crop in the concluding stages. c) An Inquiry will be opened into Jockey S Veale's (CALIENTE) crop use in this Race. d) Apprentice T Gumede signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse TRIP TO AFRICA more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice T Gumede the Board considered the number of times (14) Apprentice T Gumede struck the horse TRIP TO AFRICA, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice T Gumede used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a fine of R1000 was imposed. e) Apprentice T Gumede signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline C, in that he struck the horse TRIP TO AFRICA more than 3 times on consecutive strides in the concluding stages. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. f) TRIP TO AFRICA (*T Gumede), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D C Howells advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) GURU'S PRIDE raced equipped with blinkers (advised 21.12.20/09h27). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) WILLIAMS LAND : Coughing. SCRATCHINGS : a) HEXATONIC : Pharyngitis (Trainer - 22.12.20/15h05). Rule 53.5 applies. b) AMOR ARDIENTE : Not striding out left hind.
