THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DARK TRAVEL (G van Niekerk) reared in the stalls. b) WHAT A LOVER (O Noach) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the report from the Starter regarding DARK TRAVEL (G van Niekerk), Trainer SJ Snaith will be advised to have this filly re schooled before her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. b) Jockey G Behr was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck HAMMIE'S FAN more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Behr signed an admission of guilt and was fined R750,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account that this was Jockey Behr's first recent offence with regards to a contravention of this Rule and the number of strikes over the permissible level (13) c) Jockey R Khathi, the rider of HALLIBERRY, reported that this filly made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) GERTRUDE BELL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
