THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SUN GIANT (*K Matsunyane) was slow into stride. b) STONE COLD (M Yeni) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) ANCIENT ROME (W Kennedy) was stubborn loading. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 1200m, SWINDON'S PRIDE (C Maujean) clipped the heels of AFRAAD (D Schwarz) which shifted in. As a consequence of this, SWINDON'S PRIDE made contact with the inside running rail. Jockey D Schwarz was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of AFRAAD, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SWINDON'S PRIDE (C Maujean) when he shifted in at the 1200m. Jockey Schwarz signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days. Dates of Suspension: 3 January 2021 to 9 January 2021. b) At approximately the 1000m, GENERAL JACKSON (C Zackey) had to steady when awkwardly placed on the inside of SUN GIANT (*K Matsunyane) which was carried in marginally by ICE LORD (L Hewitson) which rolled in and was immediately straightened. The Board, after reviewing the patrol films, deemed this to be a racing incident and that blame could not be apportioned to any individual rider. c) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that SEA WAYS did not stride out freely and made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. d) The saddle on ICE LORD (L Hewitson) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon. e) WAR JEWEL (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MdP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SWINDON'S PRIDE was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (declared 27 December 2020 at 08H19). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) ICE LORD raced with a tongue tie on (declared 27 December 2020 at 08H15). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SEA WAYS abnormal respiratory noise. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
