THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) NAVARINO BAY (L Hewitson) over-raced in the early stages. Thereafter, Jockey L Hewitson reported that he felt something amiss with NAVARINO BAY (26.80 lengths) in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) At the 300m, JACK IN THE BOX (A Marcus) shifted out away from the crop. c) In view of the performance of THE ICE WAR (B Jacobson) (30.90 lengths, 100/1) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Trainer Gavin van Zyl signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 8.3.1, in that he failed to ensure that the owners' colours were available for the horse JACK IN THE BOX. Accordingly, a penalty of a warning was imposed. e) SO SMOOTH (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
