THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ATTENTIVE (S Brown) lost two lengths. b) LEADING LAD (G Lerena) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 1200m, LEADING LAD (G Lerena) which commenced to over-race, had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of STAR EFFECT (M Yeni) which rolled in marginally. b) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with STAR EFFECT in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) SHADOW CREEK (C Murray) hung in from the 300m. d) ROSSO MEADOW (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (DR). e) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck the horse ROSSO MEADOW more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R2000. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (13), his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline and the fact that Jockey Khumalo won the race. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) FAST DRAW was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (permission granted as Jockey W Kennedy's flight was delayed). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) STAR EFFECT examined post race, nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
