THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SAV'S STAR (R Danielson) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Apprentice L J Ferraris reported that MAGICALLEE (10.95 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) In view of the performance of DEEP THOUGHT (A Marcus) (6.85 lengths, 27/20 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Apprentice T Gumede signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse SOLAR FLARE more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice T Gumede the Board considered the number of times (15) Apprentice T Gumede struck the horse SOLAR FLARE, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice T Gumede used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. d) Apprentice T Gumede signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline C, in that he struck SOLAR FLARE more than three times on consecutive strides. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. e) VIVD JET (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Dixon advised (SC). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) SOLAR FLARE raced with a compression mask. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) MAGICALLLEE : Not striding out in front. b) DEEP THOUGHT : Nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
