THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) IT MUST BE LOVE (A Mgudlwa) was hanging in between the 400m and the 150m. b) FLYING THE STAR (G Wright) was hanging in from the 300m, proving difficult to assist. c) Jockey B Jacobson reported that JAY'S BARONESS (15.15 lengths) took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Apprentice T Gumede signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse WAVE CREST more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice T Gumede the Board considered the number of times (13) Apprentice T Gumede struck the horse WAVE CREST, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice T Gumede used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. e) Trainer D C Howells signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 11.2.8 in that he presented WAVE CREST in the parade ring incorrectly equipped for this Race. Accordingly, a penalty of a warning was imposed. f) IT MUST BE LOVE (A Mgudlwa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Gareth van Zyl advised (TN).
