THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SMILEY RIVER (*J R Syster) and MAZARI (J Sampson) were slow losing one length. b) WESTERN DANCE (J Greyling) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 500m, MAZARI (J Sampson) had to ease off the heels of IDEAL ANGEL (*J Gates) which shifted out. Apprentice J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of IDEAL ANGEL, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MAZARI (J Sampson) when he shifted out at the 500m. Apprentice Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days. Suspension dates: 13 January 2021 to 19 January 2021. b) In view of the performance of FIRE FLOWER (*K Matsunyane), (betting 15/10, distance 7,00 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Assistant Trainer A Ndzilana was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. c) The saddle on NABEELA (L Hewitson) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by the Stipendiary Board. d) THE SASH (C Murray), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (DR). When questioned regarding the improved performance of THE SASH, Trainer Azzie explained to the Board that in her run on 17 December 2020, she had raced in a handy position without cover from a wide draw. Today she had raced from off the pace, and in his opinion, this mare is better suited to this style of racing and this had accounted for the improvement. Trainer Azzie has undertaken to race THE SASH in a similar manner in future. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SMILEY RIVER was ridden by Apprentice J R Syster who claimed 1,5kg allowance (declared 4 January 2021 at 09H55). b) THE SASH was ridden by Jockey C Murray (declared 5 January 2021 at 04H50). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) IRISH DAME Jockey S Brown weighed out at 58,1kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. b) WESTERN DANCE Jockey J Greyling weighed out at 55,2kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. c) MAZARI Jockey J Sampson weighed out at 54,4kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) FIRE FLOWER examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) MAZARI knocked itself right hind. SCRATCHED: a) PRETTY BORDER deceased. Advised 31 December 2020 at 09H39. b) ZERNEZ injured in the saddling area (NHA) (Rule 53.5 applies). c) BURNT JASPER and EUPHORIANT reserve runners. Advised 5 January 2021 at 08H17.
