THE STARTER REPORTED: a) THIRD RUNWAY (M Winnaar) and FAVORITA (R Khathi) made contact leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FAVORITA (R Khathi), which was hanging in from the 400m, shifted in and had some influence on PRETTY YOUNG THING (A Marcus) which showed an inclination to shift inwards approaching the 100m. Thereafter FAVORITA (R Khathi) continued to shift in and made contact with HELLO WINTER HELLO (A Marcus) which was hanging out shortly before the finish, resulting in both horses' hindquarters being turned and Jockey R Khathi becoming unbalanced as a consequence. An objection was lodged by Trainer AN Marcus, the trainer of the 3rd placed horse HELLO WINTER HELLO, against the 2nd placed horse FAVORITA, on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. After reviewing the video footage, hearing the evidence presented and taking into account this incident had taken place shortly before the finish, the Stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite degree that, but for this incident, HELLO WINTER HELLO would have finished in front of FAVORITA and therefore over ruled the objection. Trainer AN Marcus' deposit was refunded. b) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of FAVORITA he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to HELLO WINTER HELLO in the concluding stages. Jockey Khathi signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days. (Dates: 10/01/2021 to 19/01/2021 inclusive) c) CELTIC SEA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SG Tarry was advised. (SC) d) FAVORITA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
