THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HUDOO MAGIC (AUS) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start SUPER SILVANO (G Cheyne) was awkwardly placed on the heels of AFRICAN NIGHT SKY (R Khathi) when it received pressure from NEXUS (G van Niekerk) which shifted in to secure a position close to the inside running rail. Thereafter SUPER SILVANO (G Cheyne) commenced to over race, shifted out and carried NEXUS (G van Niekerk) outwards for a number of strides approaching the 1600m. b) From the 400m AFRICAN NIGHT SKY (R Khathi) failed to secure a clear run on the inside of GOLDEN DUCAT (W Kennedy) and the inside running rail until approaching the 300m when GOLDEN DUCAT (W Kennedy) rolled out. Thereafter GOLDEN DUCAT (W Kennedy) was carried back in by SACHDEV (R Fourie) which was hanging in, shifted in and had to be straightened. As a consequence, AFRICAN NIGHT SKY (R Khathi), which had secured a run on the inside of GOLDEN DUCAT (W Kennedy) was forced to ease for a number of strides approaching the 150m and switched out to continue its run. As a consequence, VIKRAM (G Lerena) was inconvenienced and lost some momentum at the 50m. c) A member of the Stipendiary Board and Trainer SJ Snaith called for a race review with regards to this incident. After viewing the patrol films, all parties were satisfied that the result had not been affected and no further action was taken. d) Jockey W Kennedy was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he struck GOLDEN DUCAT more than 3 times on consecutive strides in the concluding stages. Jockey Kennedy signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. e) GOLDEN DUCAT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised. (SC) f) SACHDEV, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
