THE STARTER REPORTED A) LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, GIMME EXPRESS and CARLINO were slow into stride. B) HOMER FIDGET was stubborn loading and slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) Shortly after the start, CARLINO (X Ndlovu) stumbled when it clipped the heels of GLOBAL KAS (*X Jacobs) which was carried in marginally by GIMME EXPRESS (S Khathi) which jumped inwards. B) MODAKHAR (S Naidoo) and MEEEN STREAK (B Classen) came together at the start and became unbalanced. C) HOMER FIDGET (*J Mphanya) was difficult to settle in the early stages. D) When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MODAKHAR, Jockey S Naidoo stated that his instructions were to race from a handy position which he was able to obtain shortly after the start. He had maintained his position until straightening and he was confident that once he had established clear running that this gelding would close its race off strongly. He added that once he had asked MODAKHAR for an effort and had used his crop on the gelding, it had not provided him with the finish that he had hoped for and had felt sluggish under his hands. Following this questioning the Stewards requested a veterinary report from the Course Veterinary Surgeon. E) After the running of this race, Jockey S Naidoo was stood down by the Course Medical Officer (dehydration), Rule 25.12 does not apply. F) The winner WINGS OF FIRE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer S B Kotzen advised (PD). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES A) SHADES OF BLU raced unshod in front and alumites behind (11:33 - 06/01/2021). THERE WERE NO RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED A) MODAKHAR post-race distress syndrome. B) CARLINO nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS
