THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start for all runners. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Trainer G B Puller (SACRED BLUES) will be advised that his runner failed to adequately parade and that should this filly behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. b) In view of the performance of JACKSON WELLS (A Arries) (8.55 lengths, 9/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer M Dixon was advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. c) Apprentice J Jacobs signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse ALFONSE BABY more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice J Jacobs the Board considered the number of times (14) Apprentice J Jacobs struck the horse ALFONSE BABY, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice J Jacobs used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. d) SEA VENTURE (R Danielson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G H van Zyl advised (DA).
