THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 300m, when racing in close proximity, CELEBRATION ROCK (AUS) (*G Pieterse), SOCRATES (D Dillon) and TREAD SWIFTLY (*J Jacobs) came together and brushed on at least one occasion between the 350m and the 300m. b) At the 100m, TREAD SWIFTLY (*J Jacobs) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of SOCRATES (D Dillon) which shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. The Board has adjourned to review this incident. c) In view of the performance of GENEROUS LADY (*T Gumede) (18.50 lengths, 14/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Apprentice J Jacobs signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that as the rider of TREAD SWIFTLY, he failed to ride this horse out to the end of the race, to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1750 was imposed. e) Jockey S Randolph signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse WILLIAMS LAND more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Randolph the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey S Randolph struck the horse WILLIAMS LAND, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Randolph used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. f) SOCRATES (D Dillon), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Austin acting on behalf of Trainer S W Humby advised (DA). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) TREAD SWIFTLY : Blowing. b) GENEROUS LADY : Nothing obvious detected. THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED: a) Jockey R Danielson was examined after this Race:- dehydration. Unable to continue riding. Dr Pillay. Rule 25.12 does not apply. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
