THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MARY O (S Moodley) was stubborn to load. Trainer L Forbes was advised to re-school this filly. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MARY O (S Moodley) over-raced in the early stages. Thereafter, this filly was hanging in from the 300m. b) SHARE HOLDER (AUS) (*K Strydom) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) BLACKBALL (R Danielson) shifted out away from the crop from the 300m. d) Jockey D Dillon reported that he felt something amiss with AMERICAN INDIAN (40.95 lengths) in the running and did not persevere with is ride from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) In view of the performance of BABY SHOOZ (S Veale) (3.10 lengths, 3/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse NEWS STREAM more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey A Arries struck the horse NEWS STREAM, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. g) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.10, in that he made a celebratory gesture shortly before the finish line whilst riding NEWS STREAM. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. h) NEWS STREAM (A Arries), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Dixon advised (DA). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) AMERICAN INDIAN : Fatigued. b) BABY SHOOZ : Nothing obvious detected. c) MR FITZ : Returned post-race having cast the right hind shoe. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
