THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FOLLOW THAT STAR (M Winnaar) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FYNBOS (S Mbhele) was unable to get cover in the early stages and was steadied to obtain a position closer to the running rail approaching the 1400m. b) Leaving the 400m FRENCH DECLARATION (AUS) (G van Niekerk) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of PINK TOURMALINE (A Marcus), when tightened for galloping room between PINK TOURMALINE (A Marcus), which shifted out slightly and DOUBLE REWARD (R Khathi) which was carried in slightly by GREY PRINCESS (O Noach). Jockey Marcus appeared before the Board and was severely reprimanded and advised to take more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. c) At the 250m FRENCH DECLARATION (AUS) (G van Niekerk) had to check and shifted in which resulted in FOLLOW THAT STAR (M Winnaar) being tightened for galloping room on the inside running rail when DOUBLE REWARD (R Khathi) was directed inwards when not sufficiently clear of FRENCH DECLARATION (AUS) (G van Niekerk). As a consequence, MARINA (G Cheyne) was held up for a clear run for a number of strides when close to the heels of FOLLOW THAT STAR (M Winnaar) and switched out to continue its run. d) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of DOUBLE REWARD he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FRENCH DELCARATION (AUS) and FOLLOW THAT STAR (M Winnaar) at the 250m. Jockey Khathi signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates: 31/01/2021 to 06/02/2021 inclusive) e) Jockey S Cele, the rider of LUNAR TUNES, reported that this mare did not stride out in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) PINK TOURMALINE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised.
