THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JAMAICA BAY (S Randolph) lost 2 lengths. b) ANMER HALL (G Wright) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) UNDERTHEMISTLETOE (S Moodley) and SACRED IBIS (*J Jacobs) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) SHASTINA (*G Pieterse) was hanging out from the 600m, proving difficult to assist. c) Apprentice J Jacobs' (SACRED IBIS) goggles became dislodged from his skull cap at the 300m. d) Jockey S Moodley reported that UNDERTHEMISTLETOE (8.55 lengths) made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey S Randolph reported that he felt something amiss with JAMAICA BAY (11.60 lengths) in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Apprentice G Pieterse signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, Guideline M, in that he struck SHASTINA more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice G Pieterse the Board considered the number of times (13) Apprentice G Pieterse struck the horse SHASTINA, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice G Pieterse used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. g) SHASTINA (*G Pieterse), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G H van Zyl advised (SC).
