THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SNOW REPORT (K de Melo) was restless in the stalls, taken out, examined by the veterinary surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded, causing a slight delay. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SNOW REPORT (K de Melo) over raced in the early stages. b) At the 450m, PINKERTON (R Fourie) was carried out marginally by SNOW REPORT (K de Melo) which shifted out and had to be straightened. c) Jockey W Kennedy, the rider of KING OF GEMS, felt something amiss with this colt and he eased him out of the race from the 300m. This colt was attended to on the course by the veterinary surgeon. d) In view of the performance of FABIAN (A Domeyer) (Betting 15/2 : Distance 13.85) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) PINKERTON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (MB) f) CAPTAIN OF STEALTH, the third-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
