THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FORT COMMANDER (P Strydom) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m, CULTURED PEARL (S Brown) was buffeted for a number of strides when awkwardly placed between WALTZING AL (J Gates), which rolled out, and ENIGMA CODE (B Nyawo), which shifted in away from the crop. b) MOON JUMPER (L Hewitson) hung in from the 200m. c) Jockey P Strydom reported he felt something amiss with FORT COMMANDER in the running and did not persevere with his riding from the 500m. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning FORT COMMANDER, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this colt is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer F P Habib was advised. d) Apprentice J R Syster reported CURLING did not stride out freely in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 700m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) GOVERNORS GLORY (C Murray), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
