THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) Prior to the start of this race being effected, the hood on FATHER'S FROST (*T Gumede) was prematurely removed which resulted in this gelding rushing and marginally breaking through the front gates. Consequently, FATHER'S FROST (*T Gumede) did not obtain a fair start and a false start was declared.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) In the concluding stages, HEROIC DEED (S Veale) had to ease when awkwardly placed between GO MAN GO (T Godden) which was hanging out from the 300m and shifted out away from the crop at the 200m, and PRINCEKRESH (*M Zuma) which shifted in from the 400m. In assessing this incident, the Board took into consideration that there were dual movements which contributed to HEROIC DEED's (S Veale) ease, however the Board was of the view that the movements of both Riders were too negligent for the matter to merely be deemed as a racing incident. Consequently, the Board charged both Riders with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 and imposed a penalty of a warning. Both Jockey T Godden and Apprentice M Zuma signed admissions of guilt in this regard.
b) Apprentice T Gumede reported that FATHER'S FROST did not stride out freely in the running and as a result did not persevere with his ride. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
c) Trainer L Goosen consulted with the Board regarding DI MAZZIO (AUS) being restrained, returned to the start and being re-loaded after the false start. Mr Goosen requested and was granted permission by the Stewards to withdraw his runner in the best interest of the horse.
d) DOUBLE ESPRESSO (*J Jacobs), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G B Puller advised (ML).
JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES :
a) GO MAN GO was ridden by Jockey T Godden (advised 31.01.21/09h52).
b) HEROIC DEED raced equipped with blinkers (advised 30.01.21/10h47).
c) FATHER'S FROST Apprentice T Gumede weighed out at 50.2kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER :
a) Nil.
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED :
a) FATHER'S FROST : Lame left fore and right hind. Vet certificate required prior to re-entry.
b) FINAL ATTEMPT : Returned post race having cast the right front shoe.
c) FINAL ATTEMPT : Post race distress.
SCRATCHINGS :
a) DI MAZZIO (AUS) : Stipes Permission. Withdrawn at 16h18 after the false start was called. Rule 53.5 does not apply.
