THE STARTER REPORTED A) TINTED VISION was nervous in the stalls, reared as the start was effected, was slow away and lost 1 length. B) CELTIC CAT was slow away and lost 1 length. C) SORCERY TEMPEST refused to load and was withdrawn by the Starter. The starting stall certificate for this filly is withdrawn. D) SHAHIDI was withdrawn by the Course Veterinary Surgeon due to a head injury. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) There was no back straight camera available for review from races 3 to 5. B) In view of the Starter's report with regard to SORCERY TEMPEST (X Ndlovu), this filly's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and she is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as she proves tractable loading into the stalls. Suspension dates: 13 February 2021 to 19 February 2021 both days included. SORCERY TEMPEST may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer A C Greeff was advised. C) When questioned regarding his riding of SARAJEVO, Jockey R Munger told the Stewards that from a wide draw, he had taken this filly across and behind runners at the start. His instructions were to ensure that the filly was in a position to close its race off strongly. The Stewards reviewed his riding of the race in his company and alerted him to the concerns that they had with the filly being allowed to race some 3 lengths behind the second last runner and that even though SARAJEVO (R Munger) had raced greenly on the bend and it had showed a tendency to hang outwards, Jockey R Munger was advised that he should have made an effort to improve his position sooner than when he had done so and in fact only commenced to ride the filly with the required vigour from the 400m. He was advised that it was evident that SARAJEVO had made up ground rapidly under this vigorous ride and that the margin at the finish was under 1 length between him and the fourth-place getter. Jockey R Munger was advised that he is required to ride with sufficient vigour and determination to ensure that his mounts are competitive and that his riding should leave no room for query from the Stewards. D) Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck the horse TINTED VISION more than 12 times in the entire race. A penalty of a R1000 fine was imposed. E) The winner GIFT OF PEACE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer G D Smith advised (LM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES A) GIMME A WISH raced equipped with alumites front, unshod behind (08:49 - 12/02/2021). B) TINTED VISION raced equipped with a compression mask (08:50 - 12/02/2021). C) GIFT OF PEACE raced equipped with a compression mask and without ear muffs (08:07 - 09/02/2021). THERE WERE NO RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED A) ROYAL WINDSOR speedy cut left hind. B) TINTED VISION minor cut left nostril. C) SHAHIDI scratched, mild head trauma or cut in stalls and cut in nose. D) SORCERY TEMPEST scratched, nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHINGS A) SORCERY TEMPEST refused to load (13:10 - 12/02/2021). B) SHAHIDI head injury, Rule 53.5 applies (13:12 - 12/02/2021).
