THE STARTER REPORTED A) KING CAPONE and BUSH FEVER were nervous in the stalls. B) MAGIC MILA and GLOBAL CANYON were slow into stride. C) SAN VERDE was slow away and lost 3 lengths. D) AT THE OFFICE was slow away and lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) MEERAAS (L Bester) raced well clear of the field after the start and had established a sizeable lead by the time the field entered the home straight. The Stewards considered this race in relation to the circumstances of the race and that MEERAAS had been able to race well clear of the remainder of the field. They gave due consideration to the form lines of the runners and their previous races over 2400m and that MEERAAS had been headed by BUSH FEVER (L Mxothwa) in the concluding stages of the race. The Stewards concluded that the race had been run on merit. B) At the 150m, MEERAAS (L Bester) was carried out marginally by BUSH FEVER (L Mxothwa) which rolled out under pressure. C) Jockey L Tarentaal (GLOBAL CANYON) accidentally dropped his crop in the concluding stages. D) Jockey M V'Rensburg reported that he felt something amiss with AT THE OFFICE and eased this horse out of the race at the 100m. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. E) Jockey K Minnie reported that he felt something amiss with ARION EXPRESS in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. F) The winner MEERAAS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer G D Smith advised (LM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES A) SAN VERDE raced without ear muffs B) KING CAPONE Jockey B Claassen replaced Apprentice J Mphanya (13:02 - 12/02/2021). THERE WERE NO RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED A) MAGIC MILA saddle sore right side. B) AT THE OFFICE nothing obvious detected. C) ARION EXPRESS fatigue. D) BUSH FEVER abnormal respiratory noise and blowing. SCRATCHINGS A) CAPTAIN'S VISTA and THE DICTATOR insufficient recovery time, Rule 53.5 applies (05:58 - 12/02/2021).
