THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BUFFALO THORN (A Andrews) and JACKBEQUICK (M Winnaar) were restless in the stalls. b) PIKETBERG ALLEY (S Cele) was stubborn loading, causing a slight delay, reared as the start was effected and fly-jumped leaving the stalls. c) SABINA'S PRODIGY (R Fourie) and WEST COAST PIRATE (AUS) (G van Niekerk) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The stewards reviewed the start with regards to PIKETBERG ALLEY (S Cele) in stall gate 1 and established that PIKETBERG ALLEY (S Cele) had reared as the start was effected and fly jumped leaving the stalls. The stewards were satisfied the gelding had not been impeded and declared PIKETBERG ALLEY (S Cele) to be a runner. b) In view of the report from the starter regarding PIKETBERG ALLEY (S Cele), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 14/02/2021 to 20/02/2021 inclusive). PIKETBERG ALLEY may not be presented for re-passing during this period. c) At the 800m WEST COAST PIRATE (AUS) (G van Niekerk) had to be steadied and shifted in sharply when awkwardly placed on the inside of BENJAMIN (G Cheyne) which was carried in slightly by JACKBEQUICK (M Winnaar). d) JACK THE JETSETTER (J Smitsdorff) was held up for a clear run between the 500m and 400m. e) JACKBEQUICK (M Winnaar) was hanging in from the 400m. f) Leaving the 400m BUMRAH (A Domeyer) was directed to the outside of PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (A Marcus) to secure clear running. g) PREEMPTIVE STRIKE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DR Drier was advised. (BM) h) BENJAMIN, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (CvA) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) SABINA'S PRODIGY raced with cheek pieces and a tongue-tie (declared 13h55 on 20210209) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BENJAMIN - mild post-race distress b) WEST COAST PIRATE - scalped and speedy cut right hind c) JACK THE JETSETTER - coughing post-race THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS
