THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) STAR OF THE SOUTH (A Marcus) cast his left front shoe on the way to the start, which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b) IZAPHA (G van Niekerk) was stubborn loading and had to be loaded without the rider, causing a further delay.
c) TICKET TO RIDE (R Khathi) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start MAGICAL MIDLANDS (M Winnaar) shifted out onto TICKET TO RIDE (R Khathi) which made contact with DOPPIO ORO (A Domeyer).
b) At the 1000m SOMERSET MAUGHAM (R Fourie) raced onto heels of ZEB (O Noach), eased, shifted out and carried ALPHA PAPPA (K de Melo) outwards. Thereafter ALPHA PAPPA (K de Melo) was unable to secure a position close to the inside running rail and raced wide on the bend and into the straight.
c) Jockey A Marcus reported he felt something amiss with STAR OF THE SOUTH (A Marcus) (Betting 7/2 : Distance 12.55), which pulled hard in the early stages, and he did not persevere with his ride in the latter stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
d) In view of the report from the starter regarding IZAPHA (G van Niekerk), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 14/02/2021 to 20/02/2021 inclusive). IZAPHA may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
e) Jockey O Noach was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck ZEB more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Noach signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00.
f) ZEB, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (MB)
