THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HEREDITARY (L Ferraris) refused to load and was withdrawn, causing a delay. b) MISTER MAINSTAY (C Zackey) and DOLLAR BRAND (O Noach) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BETTER DAYS (J Smitsdorff), CHURCHHAVEN (R Fourie) and HIKARU (A Domeyer) reacted and broke through the front gates when DIAMOND JACK reared, dislodged Jockey G Behr, broke through the front gate and bolted the course. CHURCHHAVEN (R Fourie) was immediately restrained and BETTER DAYS (J Smitsdorff) and HIKARU (A Domeyer) were restrained after approximately 300m. These horses were returned to the start, examined by the course veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. During this incident, gates 1,2,3 and 4 were damaged, necessitating a second bank of stalls having to be brought to the start. This caused a lengthy delay. b) In view of the report from the starter regarding DIAMOND JACK (G Behr), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 18/02/2021 to 24/02/2021 inclusive). DIAMOND JACK may not be presented for re-passing during this period c) In view of the report from the starter regarding HEREDITARY (L Ferraris), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. HEREDITARY may not be presented for re-passing during this period. d) Leaving the 1000m FREEDOM PARK (L Mxothwa) raced onto the heels of BETTER DAYS (J Smitsdorff) and had to be eased. e) At the 200m BLINGKING (A Marcus) and SUPERIOR LEADER (G van Niekerk) brushed. f) Jockey C Zackey, the rider of MISTER MAINSTAY, reported that this gelding did not stride out in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. g) Jockey R Fourie, the rider of CHURCHHAVEN, reported that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. h) In view of the performance of DIVERGENT (R Khathi), (Distance 10.55) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. i) DOLLAR BRAND, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
