THE STARTER REPORTED: a) COUNTFONIC LEGACY (S Khumalo) was stubborn loading. b) FLYING BULL (W Kennedy) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey J Sampson reported he felt something amiss with BAROMETER in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Jockey C Maujean appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which, in his opinion, contributed to the poor performance of RICCARDO. In this regard, he explained that RICCARDO had jumped better than anticipated and as a consequence of this, he was unable to get cover and raced wide around the turn and into the straight. As a result of this, RICCARDO had tired in the concluding stages. He further added that in his opinion, RICCARDO was better suited to racing with cover. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey C Maujean, which was corroborated by the patrol films. c) COUNTFONIC LEGACY (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A B Fortune advised (LN). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) BAROMETER raced with a compression mask (declared 16 February 2021 at 13H43). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BAROMETER examined post race, nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHED: a) CULTURED PEARL off feed (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). b) MAPLE SUGAR bruised foot near fore (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
