THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LINEBACKER (G van Niekerk) jumped awkwardly inwards onto JUAN CARLOS (G Cheyne) which resulted in DUBAI LIGHTS (L Ferraris) being squeezed out shortly after the start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) RUSSIAN ROCK (G Behr) pulled hard in the early and middle stages and refused to settle, resulting in this colt racing to the front of the field, which is contrary to its racing style. b) Jockey G Cheyne, the rider of JUAN CARLOS, reported that this colt did not stride out in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey K de Melo, the rider of LEGITIMATE, reported that this gelding took no interest in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) LINEBACKER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
