THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOM SEGUIDOR (J Samuel) was stubborn to load. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MAMBO SYMPHONY (D Dillon) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. b) Jockey S Moodley reported that H TWO O (13.35 lengths) refused to gallop. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of A WHOLE NEW WORLD (*K Strydom) (5.05 lengths, 6/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer C Hewitson will be advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. d) At the 200m, VIKING RED (J Gates) and FINAL OCCASION (T Godden) came together and bumped on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed on the inside of A WHOLE NEW WORLD (*K Strydom) which had come to the end of its run and rolled in marginally. e) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MIGHTY SMART more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Marcus the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey A Marcus struck the horse MIGHTY SMART, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Marcus used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. f) MAMBO SYMPHONY (D Dillon), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
