THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SANUK (*J Solomons) was slow losing one length. b) WHATEVERYOULIKE (J Gates) jumped awkwardly outwards leaving the stalls. c) GRACEFUL LASS (C Zackey) was restless in stalls and thereafter slow losing three lengths. Trainer M N Houdalakis was advised to re-school this filly prior to her next engagement (GT). THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SUNTRAX (L J Ferraris) hung in from the 400m. b) MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz) hung out from the 300m. c) Jockey W Kennedy the rider of SABRINA FAIRCHILD briefly dropped his right-side rein at the 200m. d) Apprentice J Solomons (SANUK) and Jockey S Khumalo (EXULTANT) reported that their respective mounts made abnormal respiratory noises in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. e) MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer H van der Westhuizen acting on behalf of Trainer P P Labuschagne advised (DR). f) SABRINA FAIRCHILD (W Kennedy), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Peter advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) MIDNIGHT GEM raced with a pressure halter on (declared 3 March 2021 at 09H01). b) SABRINA FAIRCHILD raced equipped with blinkers (declared 4 March 2021 at 07H01). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SANUK abnormal respiratory noise and moderate poor recovery. b) SUNTRAX abnormal respiratory noise. c) EXULTANT examined post race, nothing obvious detected. d) MIDNIGHT GEM mouth injury and small cut in the right nostril (stall injury), poor recovery. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
