THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CATCH TWENTYTWO (G Lerena) and COPPER MOUNTAIN (C Murray) were slow losing one length. b) SECOND BASE (C Maujean) jumped outwards and DR DOOLITTLE (W Kennedy) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CATCH TWENTYTWO (G Lerena) hung in from the 400m. b) MALMOOS (L J Ferraris) hung in from the 200m. c) MALMOOS (L J Ferraris), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D de Kock advised (AH). d) SECOND BASE (C Maujean), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (LN). e) CATCH TWENTYTWO (G Lerena), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P A Peter advised (AH). Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck CATCH TWENTYTWO more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1500 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (16) and the fact that it was a Grade 1 Event. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None.
