THE STARTER REPORTED: a) APPROACH CONTROL (S Khumalo) and NORDIC REBEL (M van Rensburg) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey L J Ferraris reported that PUTONTHEREDLIGHT did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking APPROACH CONTROL more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1500. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (14) the crop was used and Jockey Khumalo's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline. c) WILLOW EXPRESS (*J Solomons), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) APPROACH CONTROL was ridden by Jockey S Khumalo. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) NORDIC REBEL raced with a compression mask on (declared 18 March 2021 at 12H43). b) CATEGORY FOUR raced unshod (declared 16 March 2021 at 11H44). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) PUTONTHEREDLIGHT examined post race, nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
