THE STARTER REPORTED: a) I'M SERIOUS (S Veale) lost 1 length and was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MOLLY BLACKBEARD (K Sakayi) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) At the 800m, WHISPERING HILL (C Habib) was carried out by I'M SERIOUS (S Veale) which ducked out sharply when racing awkwardly throughout. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine I'M SERIOUS. c) At the 250m, BELL STARBUSTER (W Agrella) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the outside of DIAMONDS AND TOADS (A Arries) which rolled out. d) GLOBAL APPEAL (A Mgudlwa) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. e) Jockey R Fourie reported that ROYAL COUTURE (35.50 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running and he did not persevere with his ride in the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse DIAMONDS AND TOADS more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey A Arries struck the horse DIAMONDS AND TOADS, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. g) SOLLER (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P B Muscutt advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) SOLLER raced with a compression mask. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) I'M SERIOUS : Not striding out right hind. b) ROYAL COUTURE : Broke down right front. Euthanased on humane grounds. Blood specimens were taken for analysis.
