THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SOFT DAY (X Carstens) was restless in the stalls.
b) PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) jumped outwards, brushed the hindquarters of WORDSWORTH (G Van Niekerk) and thereafter was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Leaving the 200m JAIMALA (L Mxothwa) was carried in by PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) which shifted in away from the crop and was immediately straightened. Thereafter JAIMALA (L Mxothwa) raced tight on the inside of PAPER TRAIL (S Mbhele) in the concluding stages.
b) Jockey C Zackey, the rider of STAR CAPTAIN which over raced in the early stages, reported that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
c) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of WORDSWORTH, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Jockey A Andrews, the rider of BUFFALO THORN, reported that this gelding did not stride out in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
e) PAPER TRAIL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer Miss A Alsop, acting on behalf of Trainer VH Marshall, was advised. (CvA)
f) JAIMALA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised. (TJ)
