THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SINGFORAFA (A Marcus) jumped awkwardly. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) LINEAR (S Moodley) proved reluctant to proceed to the start, had to be led by a handler and subsequently was led by the lead horse to the start. Trainer L Forbes will be advised that should this mare behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. b) VERNICHEY (W Kennedy) was hanging in from the 800m, proving difficult to assist. c) MIRAGE (R Fourie) was hanging in from the 400m. d) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with VIVID JET (7.45 lengths) in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) In view of the performance of SINGFORAFA (A Marcus) (2.25 lengths, 18/10 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MIRAGE more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey R Fourie the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey R Fourie struck the horse MIRAGE, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey R Fourie used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. g) The All Clear to this race was delayed whilst the Stipendiary Board reviewed the photo finish of this race in order to satisfy itself as to the correctness of the result. h) MIRAGE (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer V H Marshall advised (DA). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) FLASHY KAITRINA raced without cheek pieces and raced equipped with blinkers (advised 04.04.21/07h41). b) CALULO was ridden by Jockey E Ngwane (advised 04.04.21/08h39).
